Form meets Function

I have always admired the works of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and we recently had the chance to visit his former winter home and school, Taliesin West, in Scottsdale, Arizona. While on the tour, I was moved by the dedication to nature, to creating a form that fit into its surroundings, while at the same time the ability to create such a functional space.

I was moved by the dedication the school continues to have for his beliefs and philosophy, and how much care they take in preparing their current students to realizing their personal dreams and goals. As I listened to the tour guide, a resident of Taliesin West, I found myself looking at my husband, Chris, the artist of Higdon Writing Instruments, with a new sense of pride. I have seen him do this every day, take such great care in selecting the woods for his pens, and meticulously turning the woods into art, where form meets function. He takes what others might see as unusable and creates from that that which is both beautiful and functional.

Chris continues to love his pen work and dedicates himself to the art of the project, while I myself pay attention to all the business aspects of Higdon Writing Instruments.  For those of you like me, that often over look the beauty around us, I challenge you today to stop and see the beauty, and the potential of all that surrounds us.
